HTC expects revenues to fall in 2009

by on Aug.03, 2009, under HTC

The mobile phone market is hot right now and competition among phone makers is very fierce. Many phone makers are putting their horses behind the Android cart. HTC is betting big on Android’s popularity and has announced several new Android-powered devices.

Despite the popularity of the OS, HTC says that it still expects to see profits drop this year. The Wall Street Journal reports that the company expects the decline in profits in part because of delays in product launches, larger than expected declines in contract orders, and lower than expected sales in China.

HTC says that it is predicting sales will fall by low to mid single digit percentages. The proliferation of Android phones has led to lower pricing on the devices, which will also force HTC’s average selling price down and contribute to the decline in sales according to analysts.

DigiTimes reports that HTC has plans to increase the use of Android on its smartphones up to 50% of the devices it sells. HTC has said in the past that it won’t abandon Windows Mobile, but the increasing of a new OS like Android to 50% of its products can’t sit well with Microsoft.

HTC will also reportedly be launching a new high profile 3G handset cased on the Qualcomm Brew Mobile Platform in September or October of this year. The handset is said to have HTC’s TouchFlo 3D tech and will be an entry-level model.
