HTC Touch2 will launch on Oct. 6 with Windows Phones

by on Sep.03, 2009, under HTC

The device will run Windows Mobile 6.5 (obviously) along with HTC’s TouchFLO user interface. HTC is holding back on the specifications for the phone right now, but its launch is barely a month away so deets will be coming sooner rather than later.

The new lot of Windows Phones had better be good; there is significantly more competition in the mobile market now than there was a year or so ago. Google is picking up steam with Android and Palm’s webOS is looking pretty good too.

HTC applies for patent on capacitive stylus and dynamic display adjustment

by on Aug.14, 2009, under HTC

HTC has filed for a patent on a process for using a stylus on a capacitive touchscreen. The patent outlines a method of bringing resistive stylus accuracy to a capacitive touchscreen. The stylus in the HTC patent has a magnetic head that can be registered by a normal capacitive display.

That means that the user will be able to use the stylus or their finger as they want. A second HTC patent has outlined a new method of dynamically adjusting the brightness of the screen to prevent people from looking at the data on your screen. The system tracks the users face with cameras to adjust the content on screen.

At the same time the announcement was made HTC’s Peter Chou also said that the company intends to make at least 50% of its line represented by mid-range smartphones. That equates to devices that cost about $300.

HTC Touch Pro 2 for T-Mobile tips up

by on Aug.12, 2009, under HTC

HTC has been introducing new mobile phones hot and heavy over the last few months. The most interesting of them all may well be the Hero with its sweet design and Android operating system. T-Mobile has got a new HTC handset as well.

The HTC Touch Pro2 has landed on T-Mobile and offers 3G connectivity and more. Our sister publication SlashGear has the Pro2 on video for an unboxing and a quick hands-on. The Pro2 measures in at 4.59″ x 2.36″ x 0.68″ and weighs 6.61 ounces. It has a slide out QWERTY keyboard and sports a 3.6-inch touchscreen.

One of the bad points of the device is that it lacks the 3.5mm headset jack that the CDMA version offered. The device does ship with a headset, but we all know stock headsets leave a lot to be desired. The device is far from cheap; T-Mobile offers it for $349.99 with a 2-year contract and a mail-in rebate.
