New Pantech phone concepts

by admin on Oct.26, 2008, under Concepts, Pantech

Pantech is certainly good for creating interesting phones. But they’re also great for some good phone prototypes. Being ones to deliver, they’ve whipped up four new ones that we just had to share with you here.

Designed by the Pantech Design Community, these four phone concepts are actually in consideration to be built. Pictured above is the Coralliform Water. It’s ocean-inspired and mimics the look of a flower when closed. This slider looks to contain a touchscreen and a camera as well. Below, is the Easter Moai. This design features a touchscreen, touchkey, dome key, and other keys all over it. The idea is to appeal to people’s different tastes and function needs.

The next phone is the Recy_Q. This phone features full touch and a full QWERTY keyboard. Finally, there’s the Softy Lofty. It’s hard to say where the screen is, but it definitely is interesting!

Nanokia concept phone uses e-ink, haptic interface

by admin on Oct.26, 2008, under Concepts

Some concept phone designs are just plain ugly. But every once in awhile a really pretty one comes our way that just has to be admired and subsequently shared. That’s precisely the case with the Nanokia.

This concept phone is called the Nanokia and actually has no buttons at all. It features a haptic interface and is touch-based. It’s similar to the iPhone in this regard. It also uses an e-ink screen, which makes it look like there’s no screen at all.

It also has a slide out screen, which is pretty cool. Now what I want to know is when something like this will actually hit the market. I would definitely be first in line for it!

DoCoMo and Fujitsu concept phone

by admin on Oct.01, 2008, under Concepts, Fujitsu

There’s been a lot of interesting tech coming out of CEATEC this year and this phone is no exception. The Japanese tech show featured a phone made by DoCoMo and Fujitsu that actually splits into two pieces.

This phone has two separate pieces that attach by means of magnets. The screen separates from the keyboard and it can be made into a flip phone or a landscape, QWERTY-type device much like the Touch Pro.

The two halves communicate by means of Bluetooth. It’s pretty cool looking but not all that practical. I mean, the whole idea is to have all of your devices contained in one device, splitting it in two just seems counterintuitive.

Transformer rotating cellphone concept packs 3D scanner

by admin on Sep.14, 2008, under Concepts

It seems like ages since we’ve had a concept phone on these pages, so lets muster up some congratulations for Ukraine designer Shkinder Maxim who has just won third place in the Tancher Electronic Design competition with his twisty, projector-toting ‘Transformer’ handset. Consisting of three main sections that pivot 360 degrees around a central pivot, Maxim envisages the Transformer as comprising five key functions: cellphone, photo/video recorder, media player, projector and holographic projector/3D scanner. Different modes are activated by positioning the handset into particular shapes; for instance, when working as a projector the cellphone stands upright in a Y-shape.

Tatung VoIP Phone Prototype

by admin on Aug.27, 2008, under Concepts

Tatung has dreamed up a VoIP phone prototype that’s sure to make all the tech geeks swoon. Even I’m taken aback at this one. With its slim design and candy color, I can’t help but think, “I want one, I want one!”

Sure, this phone may not be all that practical, but it definitely looks nice. With only one button, no screen and no tactile feedback, it seems like it would be difficult to use and probably wouldn’t even fit against your face nicely.
