Drawings reveal features of T-Mobile G1 Android phone

by on Aug.26, 2008, under Google, HTC

Drawings have leaked over at AndroidGuys.com that reveal some new information about the T-Mobile G1, also known as the Android-based HTC Dream. And while a bunch of new information was revealed, the most notable part would have to be the measurements.

The sizing has been made clear now, and we can expect a G1 that measures in at 16.35mm thick. Toward the bottom of the handset near the buttons and jogball, is a “chin” that seems to have no purpose. Well, I’m sure it has a purpose, but just what that is at the moment is unclear.

A track for the slide mechanism and a full QWERTY keyboard are also shown. The markings that will be on the phone are also clear. You can see “Google” on the back along with HTC logo and a T-Mobile myFaves icon.

Android SDK v0.9 released

by on Aug.22, 2008, under Google

Android SDK v0.9 has just been released and with that “.9″ looking rather close to “1,” we’d put our money on all of the latest release date rumors regarding the HTC Dream in October. This updated version presents some significant changes and increasingly points toward finalization.

The new version of the beta incorporates many more widgets and has a more pleasing interface. It also features a flickable homescreen and a tab that hides your apps, but can be pulled up quickly to view what you have stored.

A media player and camera are also included. You can sync your contacts and it seems this version has been designed to work with a slide out keyboard. I think this one’s almost ready, folks! And by the looks of it, we won’t have to wait much longer.

HTC Dream Approved by the FCC

by on Aug.22, 2008, under Google, HTC

The HTC Dream phone has just received FCC approval and that brings us one step closer to the rumored October release of the T-Mobile G1.

The phone is listed as type “Dream” with a model number of DREA100. And in case you’ve forgotten already, the HTC Dream is chock full of features including 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR, GSM/SPRS/EDGE 850/1900 and WCDMA 1700 bands (a.k.a. 3G on T-Mobile). Needless to say, the “Dream” is pretty packed. What you might not know is the phone will also have a “jogball.” Those who’ve had a Sidekick or BlackBerry are familiar with this already.

We’ve come along way from calling it the “Googlephone.” And if all goes well, we’ll soon hear an announcement–like, September soon–of the first ever Android-based handset.

Google crafts web-based Google Talk for iPhone

by on Jul.03, 2008, under Apple / iPhone, Google

Google’s released a new version of its Google Talk web app that’s optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch — that’s right, web app, meaning that they’ve stayed true to Stevie’s original vision of keeping everything within the Safari sandbox. No firmware 2.0, no App Store, and certainly no iPhone 3G needed to take advantage of this one, just a plain ol’ iPhone Classique and a willingness to keep Safari open for however long you wish to be available to your Google Talkin’ comrades.
