Sprint 4G WiMax with Geobrowsing roll out this fall
by admin on Aug.29, 2008, under Uncategorized

Sprint announced yesterday that they will be rolling out their 4G WiMax service in the fall with the help of several mobile partners to help localize the features. By means of a function called “geobrowsing” WiMax will be able to tune into local news, restaurants, weather and more.
With WiMax, users will be able to access local information on their laptops or mobile devices. And Sprint announced yesterday that the initial cities to get the service are Baltimore, Chicago and Washington D.C. all before the year’s end.
As a part of the XOHM 4G system, the GPS will constantly feed information about the user’s whereabouts to applications. This was made possible by means of a partnership between Sprint and uLocate. Pricing has not yet been announced, but many different plans will be available.
Motorola Z10 bends on purpose
by admin on Aug.29, 2008, under Motorola
The Motorola Z10 is pretty cool. It breaks in half, after all. And though the design innovations are impressive, the phone itself doesn’t have much to speak of.

Intended to be a mobile studio for those on the go, the phone doesn’t exactly live up to expectations. Sure it has a built in camera for both stills and video, but with a 3.2MP camera, a 1GB microSD card and 2.2 inch screen, you can’t get the level of functionality you may desire.
The OS is also very difficult to navigate and makes it rather difficult to even perform simple tasks. That being said, the phone is pretty neat looking, but for $500, I want form and function, thank you very much.
BlackBerry Storm 9530 and Thunder are same phone for different carriers
by admin on Aug.29, 2008, under BlackBerry
RIM has been in the news a lot in the past few days, mostly for their recently launched BlackBerry Bold, but now there’s quite a bit of talk about the BlackBerry Storm 9530. And though it will most likely be released on Verizon in October, you can also expect to see it on other carriers as the BlackBerry Thunder.

When the device is released on Vodafone and Rogers, it will be called the BlackBerry Thunder, not the Storm. Interesting. I’ve heard of a change in model number for different carriers but not whole name changes! The leaked packaging above highlights some of the features we can expect to see on the Storm/Thunder including a 8GB microSD, 3.5mm headset jack, pre-installed SIM card and more. Notably absent, however, is Wi-Fi capability.
Sony S-Series Walkman with noise cancellation
by admin on Aug.29, 2008, under Uncategorized
Sony announced their new S-Series which is their latest high-end digital audio player that sports a slim design, noise cancellation and even the SensMe suggestion engine. This one even includes 13.5mm EX headphones and a pass through cable.

Featuring a 2-in QVGA screen, support for most audio formats and more, this device promises to be a real digital audio contender. The SensMe engine is new for the Sony Walkman, though it’s been featured on Sony Ericsson Walkmans in the past. The engine works by analyzing a song, mapping it out on a chart and then gives you the option to select your music type of choice based on your mood.
The S-Series is super thin, measuring in at only 7.5mm. It provides you with 10 hours of video playback and 40 of audio. The S-Series will be available next month. According to Gizmodo, “The 4 GB S-series will cost $150, while the 8 GB will cost $180.”

Nokia announced that their N96 smartphone will be released in America in Q4 of 2008. The 3G HSDPA phone will have a 2.8 inch screen, 16GB storage, a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and GPS and WiFi.

Even though the phone has been available for some time in Europe it will just now make its debut in the U.S. A kickstand will also be included so you can prop up the device for watching movies. It is truly a multimedia phone that is primed for music, movies and more. This phone could have been a real iPhone competitor, but its price tag is more than enough to scare people away. With no contract, the Nokia N96 will cost $895!
