Tag Heuer Meridiist luxury cellphone

by on Apr.10, 2008, under Tag Heuer

Perhaps, when the price of a Tag Heuer watch is considered, the estimated $5,300 – $6,000+ ticket on this upcoming cellphone bearing the company’s moniker is justified.  After all, Vertu seem to make a good living pumping out limited edition, highly-priced handsets with mundane Nokia guts.  However, like Vertu have been accused of, Tag Heuer haven’t exactly broken new ground with their handset: browsing the spec sheet for the Meridiist shows that it won’t be replacing an iPhone when it comes to functionality.

A 1.9-inch QVGA main screen is really too-small, and while Bluetooth, PMP functionality, a 2-megapixel camera and an impressive 28-days standby time are all reasonable, people have begun to ask more from their handsets.  The angled OLED status display on the top is a nice design touch, but it’s not exactly a Tag watch.  They’ve obviously been concentrating more on the build: stainless steel casing, Sapphire Crystal glass for the screen and a choice of rubber, leather or metal back panels.  It’ll be available in Q2 2008.
